Philly to Cambridge Maryland

The ride from Philly to Maryland was pretty easy.   I don’t think I even got lost once.  But this

is about Philly. We had a great time and saw a lot of stuff. First we stayed a block from City Hall.  We found out that it is the largest city hall in the world.

We saw Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell.

We had a great time and we saw all kinds of  historic stuff.  In the end we saw the things that KiKi wanted to see. We even exmined the Liberty Bell with our magnafying Glass.

We finshed our Sight seeing and headed for Cambridge Maryland. The ride was pretty easy. We got in about 4:00 and just hung around the house and had a quiet evening. The last couple of days we hung out at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay where Tom works.  We sat around the pool, ate, drank and generally had fun.

We are heading back to the pool for the day and will take off for DC around 3:00. Tomorrow we take on DC.

Boston to Philadelphia

Well we got started at about 7:30 on Saturday morning.  We picked up some donuts at Dough Boy, filled up the tank and headed South.  We made pretty good time until we hit New York.

George Washington Bridge

It took a little over an hour to get through the last 5 miles before the George Washington Bridge.  We crossed over into Jersey and I managed to get lost, not once, but twice.  After driving through some rather distressed areas of New Jersey, I figured out where to go and got back on track.  We stopped at a Sonic somewhere in Jersey for lunch and continued our adventure.

It didn’t seem like too long before we got to Philadelphia.  It did seem to take a very long time too get to downtown.  I got lost once more and finally made it to the hotel at about 5:00.  Nine and a half hours to go 354 miles.  Yep, it’s an old time family fun vacation. More on Philly later.

Off for an Old Time Family Fun Vacation

We are heading out on the open road for our family vacation tomorrow.  I remember driving to Florida as a kid with my family. This will be our family’s first real road trip. All I can think of is packing up the Family Truckster from the Vacation movie.

Good Old Family Fun

First we are going to Philidephia to see the Liberty Bell and the Betsy Ross house. It’s about 350 miles away. That is seven hours in the car with the kids. I think the longest we have done before was around 2 or 3 hours.  The kids are bringing their tablets to read and play games on, maybe they will even write something for their blog. I think when we were kids we fought with each other for entertainment.  After Philidephia we will head to  Maryland an DC.  It’s the first leg of this trip where the adventure begins that I am looking forward to.  It should be interesting to say the least, I just want to know why the song “Holiday Road” keeps playing in my head.

More Snow

I knew that there was snow forecast for later this afternoon but it was really coming down at 12:30 when I went out at lunch.  It looked like about an inch of new snow when I went out and around two inches 45 minutes later when I got back.  It is tough getting around whether our walking, driving, taking the T or biking like one hardy Bostonian I came across.

Two Kids From Boston

On our way to school this morning I saw a duck on Salem Street. I said” “Daddy, look there’s a Duck across the street.” He look over and sure enough there was a mallard pecking at some snow.

Here is a picture of the duck. Right after Daddy took this a car came by and the duck ran away up the street. I think that the duck was a mommy duck looking for Valentine’s Day treats for her little ducklings. But one thing is for sure it`s not everyday you see a Duck on Salem Street so this must be my lucky day.

SnowDay For Everyone!!!!

About 5 Inches at 8:00 am

Today we all had a snowday.  We heard that BPS was canceled at about 7:30 last night.  I got up this morning and loooked out the window. It didn’t look too bad and I had no texts or e-mails saying to stay home.  I got up, got dressed and headed off to work.  When I got to the building security told me everyone was supposed to stay home today.  I turned right around and trudged back home in the snow.  Snow day for all.

Blizzard of 2013

We survived the Blizzard of 2013.  School and work were called off on Friday in anticipation of the storm.  I went out at about 9:00 am to get some before pictures.

At 3:30 the whole family headed out to see what was going on.  There was 3 or 4 inches on the ground, the wind was howling and it was cold.

The Storm howled outside the windows all night long.  When we got up, what we could see out the windows from our 4th floor unit didn’t look too bad.  Our thermometer read 10 degrees and the wind was still blowing, so we got all bundled up to check out the neighborhood.

We played in the snow until we got too cold and then it was back home for hot chocolate and eggs.   Once we warmed up and our clothes were dry, we grabbed the sleds to go sledding down the stairs at the Gassy Playground on Prince Street.  Sledding down stairs seems like one of those things you only do in places like Downtown Boston.
